Water with 1–2 liters, and let the plant rest 2–3 days before planting.
To boost flowering, reduce watering slightly about 2–3 weeks before expected bloom. This mild stress encourages the plant to focus on reproduction (flowering), enhancing bloom quantity and size.
Dig a planting pit of 2x2 ft if planting in the ground. For containers, use a pot at least 24 inches wide and deep.
Use a well-draining mix: 40% garden soil, 30% compost, 30% river sand or coco peat. Avoid clay-heavy or waterlogged soil.
Gently loosen the root ball before planting. If roots are circling, make small vertical cuts to encourage outward growth.
Soak the root ball in water for 15-20 minutes before transplanting.
Place the tree in the hole so that the base is level with the surrounding soil. Backfill firmly and water thoroughly to settle the soil.
Choose a full sun location that gets at least 6-8 hours of direct sunlight daily. This ensures the tree has enough energy to bloom.
Consistent watering is crucial, especially for new trees.
For young trees (0-1 year):
Water every 3-4 days using 2-3 liters. Apply slowly at the base.
Check moisture using your finger - if the top 1-2 inches feel dry, it’s time to water.
For mature trees (1+ years):
Water every 6-8 days with 6-8 liters, depending on weather.
In hot months, water early morning or evening to prevent evaporation.
In cool months, reduce frequency to avoid soggy roots.
Signs of overwatering: yellowing leaves, soft stems, and root rot.
Signs of underwatering: dry, curling leaves, and drooping.
Always mulch around the base to retain moisture and cool the roots - but keep mulch 2-3 inches away from the stem.
Use a phosphorus-rich fertilizer like 5-10-10 before the blooming season to promote flower production.
Apply compost tea or well-rotted manure every 4-6 weeks from late fall to early spring.
Avoid high nitrogen fertilizers - they promote leaf growth at the expense of blooms.
Prune lightly after the main flowering season to shape the canopy and remove spent flower heads.
Remove any weak, crossing, or dead branches.
Do not prune during budding season (late fall), as it can reduce flowering.
This tree tolerates heat well but will benefit from mulch and deeper watering during heatwaves.
In cooler zones (Islamabad, Quetta), mulch heavily in December to protect roots from frost. Cover young plants with cloth or jute if nighttime temperatures fall below 5°C.
