Expert Tip

Pick custard apples when the skin turns slightly yellowish-green and begins to separate at the nodes. Ripen indoors for 2-3 days before eating for the best taste.

Planting And Care

Container: Use a 20-24" pot with good drainage. Fill with a mix of soil, compost, and perlite or cocopeat. Repot every 2-3 years.

Sunlight

Ground: Choose a sunny, warm site with sandy or loamy soil. Dig a 2x2 ft hole. Use a mix of 40% native soil, 30% compost, and 30% sand. Avoid compact or clay-heavy soils.

Watering

Water every 3-4 days during the growing season. Mature trees can be watered weekly.
Avoid overwatering — allow the soil to dry slightly between waterings.

Fertilizing

Apply fruit tree fertilizer (NPK 8-8-8 or 10-10-10) every 6-8 weeks from March to September.
Use compost or cow manure twice a year — spring and late summer.

Pruning

Prune after harvest to shape the tree and improve airflow.
Remove suckers or crossed branches to support healthy growth.

Weather Protection

In cooler zones (Lahore, Faisalabad), use plastic or cloth wraps during winter nights.
In extreme heat, mulch the base and water deeply to reduce stress.
