Expert Tip

Larkana guavas are firm and transport well—pick when skin turns pale green and fruit softens slightly under pressure. Slice and sprinkle with black salt for a classic roadside-style treat.

Planting And Care

Pot: Use a 20-24" pot with multiple drainage holes. Soil mix: 40% soil, 30% compost, 30% sand. Re-pot every 2-3 years.

Sunlight

Outdoor: Pick a sunny spot with sandy-loam soil. Dig a 2x2 ft hole and amend with compost and river sand (40/40/20). Avoid poorly drained or compacted soils.

Watering

In the first year, water every 3-4 days. Once mature, weekly watering is enough. In dry climates, mulch is essential.
Do not allow water to pool at the base—guavas dislike soggy roots.

Fertilizing

Feed with balanced NPK (10-10-10) every 6-8 weeks during the growing season.
Supplement with cow dung or compost at the start of spring and monsoon.

Pruning

Prune annually to shape, remove weak branches, and open up the canopy.
Maintain airflow to reduce fungal issues in humid zones.

Weather Protection

In cooler cities like Islamabad or Sahiwal, protect young trees from frost in December-January with cloth or wrap.
In extreme heat, mulch and deep water to avoid leaf burn.
