Place in shaded, airy space for 2–3 days.
Water gently with 1–2 liters, then prepare planting site.
Harsingar flowers are most fragrant at night. Plant it near your window or prayer area to enjoy its scent — and remove dry flowers regularly to stimulate new blooms.
If planting in the ground, dig a 2x2 ft hole and loosen the soil well. For containers, use a pot 18 inches wide or more.
Ideal soil mix: 40% garden soil, 30% compost, 30% sand or coco peat. Avoid hard clay or soggy soils.
Gently loosen the root ball before planting. Soak roots in water for 15-20 minutes.
Set the plant in the soil at the same depth it was in the nursery pot. Backfill and water thoroughly to remove air pockets.
Choose a location with full sun or partial shade, receiving at least 5-6 hours of sunlight daily. Morning sun is best.
Harsingar prefers moist but not soggy soil.
Young plants (first year): Water every 3-4 days with 2-3 liters, especially in dry or hot conditions. Use your finger to check if the top 2 inches are dry.
Mature plants: Water every 6-7 days with 4-5 liters. Increase frequency during flowering or very hot weather.
Use mulch around the base to help retain moisture and keep roots cool - but don’t let mulch touch the stem.
Signs of overwatering: Drooping or yellowing leaves, spongy soil.
Signs of underwatering: Wilting or browning leaves, dry soil.
Apply a balanced organic fertilizer (like cow dung or compost) every 6-8 weeks during the growing season.
Compost tea or banana peel water can be added once a month.
Avoid excessive chemical fertilizer - this may reduce fragrance and flower production.
Lightly prune the tree after the flowering season ends to keep it tidy and encourage bushy growth.
Remove any dry flowers, dead stems, or inward-growing branches.
For container plants, prune to maintain size and allow airflow.
In cooler zones, mulch around the base to protect roots in December-January.
In extreme summer, provide partial shade during the hottest hours and water more frequently.
