Avoid waterlogged or overly shallow soils — pears need stable root depth.
Choose a full sun location with fertile, well-drained loamy soil. Dig a 2x2 ft hole and mix 40% soil, 30% compost, 30% sand.
Water every 4-5 days in early years. Mature trees need weekly watering during dry spells.
Use mulch to keep soil cool and prevent water loss.
Feed with balanced NPK (10-10-10) in spring and early summer.
Add composted manure at the start of the growing season.
Prune in late winter to remove inward branches and maintain airflow.
Remove any suckers or crossed limbs for better shape.
In highland zones, no protection is needed.
In warmer zones, wrap base in winter and provide shade netting during heatwaves.
